Project Kick-off: Time to Plan
The most important word used throughout any ERP implementation will be "PLAN." There needs to be a plan in place for every phase of the project. Starting at the project kick-off meeting the full team will come together and review the implementation plan with timelines, due dates and responsibilities per role. Once created it must be agreed on and signed off on so all expectations are set. This will include the deliverables of the Project, a calendar of milestones and regularly occurring status meetings, and updates on budget versus actual spend. This will ultimately outline the vision and scope of the system implementation.

You’ve gone through the arduous journey of researching, demoing and purchasing new ERP Software. Congrats! As a food distributor you know that technology matters. And the right technology becomes essential to everyday life in your organization. Because the right technology impacts buying, forecasting, inventory management/warehouse management, pricing management, and certainly retail delivery; selecting and implementing the right ERP in food distribution becomes both a science and an art.
Anybody who has attempted to piece together data from multiple systems and make sense of the data, understands the frustration of a disconnected business. Often, too, accessing the information and trying to create insightful reports ends up being burdensome and untimely. The mountains of data being captured by small and midsize businesses increases exponentially each day, month and year. The more information an ERP system collects, the more options users need to access, report on and view that data.
Every manufacturer and distributor has inventory; and it is often the focus of cost-cutting efforts and a main factor in operational strategy. When companies meet with us inventory management is a challenge that is a key driver behind investing in a new ERP system. With orders coming in from multiple channels and lead times being at the mercy from a host of different obstacles, using outdated processes or technologies to manage inventory can be costly and inefficient. That’s a no-brainer. Simply stated: You need to know what you have and have enough of it when it’s needed.
